Olympus Introduces the World's First and Only Monopolar, Disposable Tonsil Adenoid Debrider (DTAD)
The Olympus DTAD includes 3 industry firsts in one device combining monopolar energy, a battery-powered debrider, and a malleable shaver blade that can be set at 40° for adenoids, 15° for tonsils, or anywhere in between.
Center Valley, PA and Southborough, MA, September 11, 2012 — Olympus, a precision technology leader in designing and delivering innovative solutions in Medical and Surgical Products, among other core businesses, announced their FDA-cleared DTAD (Disposable Tonsil Adenoid Debrider) at this year's AAO-HNSF annual meeting.
The Olympus DTAD is the world's first and only disposable tonsil adenoid debrider that combines monopolar energy and distal suction with a malleable shaver blade. Using proprietary FLEXBLADE Technology, DTAD's malleable shaver blade is designed to provide optimum access to adenoid and tonsil anatomy in a singular device without requiring the exchange of blade parts or use of tools during a procedure. DTAD is also the world's only battery-powered debrider, making it easy to set up and easy to use without any additional capital investment in a console or other equipment.
“By combining monopolar energy with a malleable shaver blade, Olympus' unique DTAD allows the surgeon to cut and coagulate with a single device, reducing the need to exchange instruments,” says Sandra Tilden, Vice President of Marketing for Olympus’ Surgical Business. “DTAD also plugs into any standard monopolar generator so our customers can realize capital efficiencies by not having to purchase a new console.”
As a battery-powered device that also does not require irrigation or a dedicated console, DTAD makes faster setup time possible through “Plug and Play” implementation. In addition, distal suction allows the shaver blade to be used as a suction device for blood and fluid leading to better visualization of the surgical site.
“Our mission is to design, develop, and manufacture world-class, innovative solutions like DTAD as we strive to help make surgery safer, easier and more efficient for our customers,” says Georg Schloer, President of Olympus Surgical Technologies America which is a manufacturing arm of Olympus. “Olympus is committed to helping surgeons and physicians perform advanced procedures to elevate the standards of patient care and deliver better treatment, while improving outcomes and enhancing the quality of life.”
The Olympus DTAD is scheduled to be available in the U.S in the fourth quarter of 2012.
